Easton BJJ has several students making an impact on the MMA world! Eliot Marshall has a big fight at UFC 103 next month. "The Ultimate Fighter 10" heavyweight competitor and former CU football player Brendan Schaub has recently joined Easton. Tyler Toner is the Ring of Fire featherweight champ and is exploding on the scene. Chaun Sims is off to an amazing start in his young MMA career, winning his first two pro fights in impressive fashion. Sam Rauch is fighting this Friday night and already has several big fights under his belt. Shane Carwin has been training with Easton in preparation for his UFC heavyweight title fight with Brock Lesner. Vellore Caballero is back training and should have a fight lined up soon. Lastly, it looks like James Strater-Smith and Mike Tousignant will be amongst the next wave of students looking to burst upon the scene.
These guys have been killing it on the mats and in the cages getting ready. We all make a commitment to BJJ and training, but the MMA crew really take it to another level as they explore fighting as a career. Training at Jackson's in New Mexico, at Easton and at T's in Arvada, they are doing a tremendous job representing us, while training with the likes of Nate Marquardt, Cody Donovan, Leonard Garcia, Joey Villasenor, Brian Stann, Alvin Robinson, Donald Cerrone, Georges St. Pierre, Kieth Jardine and many others.
Professor Amal Easton had this to say, after training with the gang:
"Today I got to witness first hand the work the guys are putting in on the mats, and in the cage. Everyone is really improving a lot and putting in hard hours to make it happen. From amateurs to pros, look for big things from these guys. Coming up first will be Sam Rauch locally (go check him out!) and Nate “The Great” Marquardt next weekend, Then Eliot “The Fire” Marshall September 19th and I imagine Brendan, Shane, Alvin, Cody and Chaun will be in the cage soon enough. With plans to get in the scene around years end James and Mike were working hard, and we know we’ll be seeing more of Vellore soon as well. A big thanks to Trevor “T” Whitman, and Christian Allan who make sure the guys stand up is on point. Nate Marquardt, High Altitude Martial Arts, and Greg Jackson and all the guys at Jacksons, all these guys are what I feel collectively give us the powerhouse group we have.
